A dirt strip in country Western Australia. Four young men desperately wanted to learn to fly an airplane. They took on the challenge to make their dreams reality and won. But not without struggle not the least the lack of finances. How did they do it?

This is a story that heralds volunteers born with heart to give and applauds men and women who use the sky for their playground.

You will meet these characters and many more through the fifty-year history of the Northam Aero Club. And you will meet Pam the Lamb and Bassey the cat who lived on the burgeoning airfield with their favourite pilot in his hangar. It is a story of aviators, their dreams, their endeavours, a growing township, and the making of a ground for youngsters to move from a flying club to a life and career in aviation.

This busy airstrip 96km north east of Perth in Western Australia now provides the Northam township and surrounding areas with a significant airfield, utilised by the Flying Doctor Service, Air Ambulance, Fire Fighting aircraft and those who check Regional power lines, to name but a few; as well as by the Aero Club members who give a hearty welcome to all fellow aviators.

Author Ruth Wilson, an aviator herself for over 40 years, has captured the essence of the many and varied characters who bowed to their passion and addiction to use the skies. They simply made it happen.
